A-stan Education Team Day 5 - From the Streets of the Future

Today was such a beautiful day. We got to teach in the Kabul School #1 for Street Working Children, which is made up of kids in the first through third grade. The school was created for kids who have had to leave the school system to work all day to provide for their family. In addition to a standard education, we teach them life skills like courtesy, respect, and honesty all in a ½-day format AND give them a hot nourishing meal before they head home.

These little kiddos are so full of joy and life. Our goal is to bring THEM joy and hope, but as they laugh and look back at us, they bring US so much joy. We taught the kids The Armor of God using balloons as our armor! Their laughter filled the hall as David and John modeled the armor. At the end, we all closed our eyes and had them practice putting on God's armor: The Belt of Truth, Helmet of Hope, Body Armor of Goodness, Shoes of Peace, Shield of Faith, and the Sword of the Spirit.

Watching them do this, and doing it with them, my heart cried for them to feel the loving arms of God wrapped around each of them. Especially after the attack the other night, we wanted the kids to know that God loves them and wants them to feel safe. It's a good reminder for us too!

While we finished the afternoon classes LaNae, Kimberly, and Jillian were able to go with one of the host staff to visit the homes of some of the students at the school. The first home was one of the students that is not able to attend school right now because she and her mother were hit by a car. The sweet girl had a cast that went from her foot to her belly button. All she could do was lay there. We brought the family a month's supply of flour, sugar, tea, salt, beans, and rice.

We then visited homes of 3 other students to hear their stories and bring them some fruit and bread. It was such a blessing to meet the families of the students and see the hope that have for their children.

That's all for today! As our host says...Love you. Miss you. Bye bye!
