Globlalscope Thailand - Day 1/2

Sawdee Kha! We watched an elephant do a handstand!!

Just kidding! But that would be pretty awesome, kind of like our trip so far. Travel went smoothly and we arrived [sleep deprived] to Bangkok late Wednesday night. The Grapevine staff have a packed schedule for us so we've been going nonstop since we got here.

Day 1: We shared our first Thai meal together at the restaurant next to Grapevine, getting our first taste of the delicious local cuisine. After a quick presentation about Thai culture from two of the Grapevine students we spent the afternoon doing a prayer walk around Thammasat University. It's a huge campus that feels like it's own city; which is fitting because it used to be the Capitol at one point. Later this week we will get to visit another ancient Capitol. We topped off Day 1 with a trip to the Night Market to experience the street vendors seeing Thai delicacies. Yes, we did eat crickets.

Day 2: We spent the day in Bangkok learning about the refugees that are seeking protection here in Thailand. It's one thing to hear stories about refugees, but to sit in their living rooms and hear them share their stories face to face changes everything we previously imagined about their situation. Words can't accurately describe the impact visiting these families had on all of us. We look forward to sharing our takeaways from the day. One of the main themes of the day can be summed up by a refugee ministry staff member's vision: "Our job is to point to the fact that we are limited, but God is not"

Fun fact: To honor the Queen's Birthday, the Thai people celebrate Mothers Day all across Thailand.

Hope everyone at home is doing well. We are enjoying our adventure and are excited to share more with you in the upcoming days.
