Mexico Construction Day 4

Today was the day the team has been waiting for all week.

It started out as usual, 7am breakfast that today, consisted of Eggs and Beans. The caretakers have made sure that we get the best taste of Mexico each day, which has resulted in a few additional pounds for some of us.

After breakfast we took an hour long ride to the Conexion headquarters. Jean-Luc gave us a tour that followed into the daily devotional. The key takeaway from today's lesson was, like Moses and his staff, using all of the tools you have in your hands to follow what God has in mind for you.

After the lesson we again piled in the van to take on two of the urban slums that Comexion is involved in. Mayra met us in the first town of San Sebastian and first took us to the school where Conexion staff give vocational lessons to secondary school children. We were introduced to a class and taken through what they are being taught. Mayra then took us to a few local leader homes that are focused on housing upgrading through Habitat for Humanity. The leaders then had lunch prepared for us which was one of the best meals to date.

In the second town we toured today, local leader Mario showed us around Las Palmas and elaborated on the struggles they face. We met at a church / health care facility that Conexion is building for this community, and was followed by a short hike to local leaders houses. The main topic of conversation with the people of Las Palmas revolved around the corruption of getting affordable, potable water to the towns and completing a sewage system that supports the needs of the town.

In a powerful concluding moment of the trip, the team was invited to a Bible study for the locals that was conducted by Conexion staff member Pastor Oscar. Jean-Luc translated his message of taking God's project to their town and how they can help out this mission.

The team was reenergized seeing the work Conexion is doing in the Mexico City community. The people were full of hope and life, God truly is making his name known in this area. The team is looking forward to getting back to the job site to continue construction on the compound.
