A*ghanistan Barek Aub Team - Day 4

Good evening, friends and family!

We started our day off with a delicious breakfast, as usual. Then Darin lead us in an awesome conversation about global outreach and the obligation for all of us to go share stories and build relationships all around the world. In Afghanistan, Friday is the holy day of the week. Friday is spent relaxing and hanging out with friends and family, with prayers and a message at the mosque in the afternoon. The day of rest gave us the opportunity to do some exploring and shopping around Kabul. We started by going to a local department store and grocery store which is similar to stores back home. After that we returned to the guest house. We were able to help make a traditional Afghan lunch, bol ani and ashak, dough stuffed with leaks and potatoes. After lunch, we spent the afternoon team building and relaxing at the guest house, playing Jenga, laughing and talking. Later in the afternoon, we went to Chicken Street, the outdoor market in downtown Kabul, looking at Afghan rugs, scarves, and other trinkets. We returned back to the guest house, and met some of our hosts oldest friends over chai and cake and of course, more Jenga. We concluded the night with another fantastic meal and sharing stories.

We were very humbled that our hosts are so willing to spend their holiday serving us and showing us around the city. We are loved and cared for by the whole team; they are allowing us to feel comfortable. There is so much grace here and we feel so undeserving of all the love and kindness we have experienced and are so honored to be welcomed into this close knit and longtime community. The Afghan people are proud of their country and their communities, and eager to share their homes and time with us. We are looking forward to whatever is revealed to us the rest the week. The time seems to be going by so quickly, and we are trying to soak up as much as we can during the rest of our stay.

With love and excitement,
Brooke and Bill
