I asked her where she grew up and she gave me a lesson in forgiveness…

I asked one of the staff if they grew up near the town of Iganga and this is what she said:

I am the oldest of 5 girls. I was saved when I was 10 years. The people in my village didn’t like that so they all got together and there were about 300. They surrounded me and were holding canes and told me to give up Jesus or they would beat me. I told them I would rather be saved so they beat me many times. My father was very angry and wouldn’t let me live in the house so I hid in the Casova field to sleep. My mother also got saved and then she was beaten too. It was really, really awful and hard.

I made good grades in school and God blessed me and made me a very hard worker. I went away to secondary school and was thankful to be out of the village. My father continued to beat my mother and I got a call at school one day asking me if I could come home because my mother was nearly dead from beatings. I went and got her and had enough money to get her a place to stay away from my father and his brothers.

God also blessed me with a wonderful man to marry and I told him that if he married me that we would need to support my sisters as well. He agreed to this and all of them are in school and away from my father.

One thing I believe in so much is forgiveness and I have forgiven my father. My sisters and I go to see him and he sometimes asks me for money. I know sometimes he is lying and taking advantage about why he needs money but I help him anyway. I make my sisters come with me to visit him and when they don’t want to I tell them we must go because he is our father and we need to forgive.

Others have seen how we treat him and have said, “If that is what salvation looks like, than that is what I want.”

Through all of my hardship, God has always been with me and helped me.

My life is different tonight.

VBS is going over the top awesome! The staff is has taken complete ownership and our only job is to give them tons of encouragement. The excitement level is well beyond what it has been during other years and I’m sure their ownership is why. We had a great meeting after VBS today with lots of compliments all around. It was really great! We had dinner and dancing at Sol View with the staff which was also amazing. Life is good.
