Musana VBS - Blog 4

Tomorrow we head home. From the time we leave Musana until we walk through our own doorways will be more than 48 hours! We will shop in Jinja, have a boat ride on the Nile and even stop for pizza along the way to the airport. We will carry with us the unconditional love and endless smiles of so many children and staff at Musana. Not to mention the VBS songs that we’ve heard over 100 times (I’m not exaggerating!).

I had a few moments with the social worker today and shared with her that when our team first starts training that we write down the names of the staff and their positions and pray for them. I had her name and told her what a privilege it was to pray for her and how difficult I knew her job was. She told me she lost a child from the village that they were trying to save and that the child died of anemia. She was so sad and could hardly stand to talk about it. She said that she tries to be empathetic instead of sympathetic because if she is sympathetic she just cries but if she is empathetic she can show the people they can be strong and stand firm in their lives. There is really no end to the strength of the Ugandan people.

Today we sang and danced and celebrated Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. The children ate cookies with peanut butter and M&Ms on top (hearing them say M&Ms is hilarious!), made friendship bracelets, created rainbows in science and had water fights in games. It was a glorious day that ended with ice cream! Goodbyes are always hard and there were definitely tears today but we leave with happy hearts and know that God Made Us, God is for Us, God is always with Us, God will always Love Us and God Made Us for a Reason! To hear children shouting those truths at the top of their lungs and singing their hearts out is truly a piece of heaven.

There is suffering and pain here but there is faith and joy like no other place I have ever seen. The children at Musana are loved and cared for and educated by the highest standard. Thanks Musana for letting us be a part of your life and letting us love you! We will miss you so much!
