Jamaica Day 6

Hello, me again!

Only one more night’s sleep until you get to be reunited with your students, we are almost there!

Today was our “off day” - and we got to relax and recoup after a long week at YS Falls. We zip-lined through the trees above the waterfalls with the most spectacular view and the wind whipping through our hair. After that we swam, and played on the rope swing. Towards the end of the day, this crazy rainstorm came in – but it didn’t phase any of us. Watching the rain over the falls was simply majestic, it beat down on us and refreshed our spirits. On Monday, when Sister Marcia walked us through the LIA values she takes about harmony - harmony with God, self, others, and nature. Today was harmony…full of God’s presence, feeling so near and close…no insecurity or comparison or self-doubt, feeling full instead of empty…shalom amongst new friends…enjoying and taking in the gorgeous natural pools and the awe-inspiring falls. God was showing off today, and we got to see a glimpse of what I think heaven must be like.

Tonight in debrief everyone shared their thoughts on these three questions:
What have I learned about myself?
What have I learned about others?
What have I learned about God?
Brenna shared what I think God has been impressing on all of our hearts. She thought to herself, “If God cares so much about every little detail in all of these people’s lives…that must mean he also care’s that much about MY life”. She talked about how that realization felt overwhelming and reminded her of how POWERFUL God really is. She also talked about how we all walked in to this trip with expectations about who we thought one another would be like, we had made up our minds about who thought we liked and wouldn’t get along with…God shattered those expectations, and taught us how much we really all have in common.

I want to encourage you to ask your students these same questions, because if I wrote every awesome, profound, and heart-felt thing your students shared tonight you’d stop reading this lengthy email. Stay curious and be prepared to walk along side them as they continue to process the ways God revealed himself during their time in Jamaica.

We are going to bed with full hearts…what an incredible week. Augh if you could see this – Abi and her guitar lit by the moon, the evening mist rolling in, and a crowd of local Jamaicans surrounding her as she sings “Hallelujah”. Checking out grateful.

Pray for safe travels home, timely flights, and patience for this final leg of the trip! I’ll make sure they check-in during our layover in Atlanta to let you all know if we’re on time for our 7:30pm arrival in CO!
