Ashrei - Day 6 - From Landscaping to Relief

Wow. Yesterday was a day that our team will never forget. We experienced an earthquake that has drastically changed how folks in Mexico City and surrounding cities will live their lives. What comes to mind is the incredible force and quickness that the earthquake hit. It lasted about 60 seconds and shook the earth with such violence. None of us could stand up straight. We all huddled in the center of the yard and watched and prayed. Trees shook all around us, walls rattled and the house moved. Unbelievable. We were all safe but so many others around us were not. Many buildings, a few blocks from where we are staying, have either crumbled or are uninhabitable. It has been a devasting blow to many people around us. Please continue to pray for Mexico.

In all of his chaos, the Mexican people have been resilient. Many folks had to walk home from work many miles because trains and roads were shut down. Many folks opened up their homes for people heading home to get water and take a break. Many people have bought supplies and made food to bring to workers and displaced families. It's unbelievable how many friends and neighbors have come to the aid of their neighbors.

We were able to buy and donate supplies and take them to a cross fit gym where James attends. The owner of the gym was organizing teams all day long to try to meet the needs of the people. We were put to work filling bags with water to be distributed to work sites and neighborhoods.

People are amazing! God is working in the hearts of his people. All for now.
